Bath 50 Ultra Challenge 2026 · 28 March 2026 ·

Motor Neurone Disease moves fast. It takes away time, it takes away independence and it has no cure. Every day we support people affected by MND. We fund ground-breaking research. We campaign for better care. We’re here for everyone who needs us. Because with MND, every day matters.

Story

On 28 March 2026, I will be running in the Bath Ultra Challenge with my family in support of my cousin, Eleanor Nicholson.

Eleanor is just 35 years old. Soon after giving birth to her beautiful twins, Alexander and Libby, she was devastatingly diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease (MND).

Motor Neurone Disease is a progressive neurological condition that affects the motor neurones responsible for voluntary muscle movement. Over time, these nerves stop functioning properly, leading to increasing muscle weakness, loss of mobility, and ultimately severe disability.

It is impossible to truly put into words the impact this diagnosis has had on Eleanor, her wonderful husband Oliy, their young children, her sisters, parents, and the rest of our family. Knowing that we will one day lose our kind, loving, and incredible cousin is heartbreaking beyond measure.

I am raising money for the Motor Neurone Disease Association (MNDA), a charity that provides vital support to people living with MND while funding crucial research and campaigning for better care and services. Their work includes providing essential equipment, financial assistance, communication aids, and support networks, as well as driving research to better understand the disease and work towards a cure.

Your donation can make a real difference:

£85 could pay for a vital chemical to preserve 600 tubes of frozen cells for research

£280 could enable a person with MND to download their banked voice

£500 could fund a tablet device, helping someone communicate with their loved ones

£1,000 could pay for detailed DNA analysis to help researchers better understand the causes of MND

My goal is to raise £1,000 to support this essential work and help give hope to families like ours. Any donation, no matter the size, would mean so much to us and to everyone affected by this devastating disease.

Thank you for taking the time to read and for your support.
