Running a marathon for The Brain Tumour Charity

Sale / south Manchester Xmas Marathon · 15 December 2024
I'm running a marathon, never thought I would be saying that, especially not any time soon, however in March my dad got diagnosed with a stage 4 terminal glioblastoma brain tumour. He's been so strong since not letting it get him down, so if he's strong enough to deal with a brain tumour, what's running 26.2 miles 🤷🏼♂️. So I want to achieve something to make him proud whilst also raising money and increasing awareness for brain tumours. Only 2% of all money raised for cancer charities is for brain tumour research / care which is far too low and underfunded for such a dangerous disease.
My dad and grandad used to run a lot of long distance races so it's something I want to carry on. My dad supported me during my half marathon, also we competed in a triathlon together so it only felt right to complete a marathon to raise money.
Having a family member diagnosed with such an awful disease is not something you ever think will happen to you or your family, but The Brain Tumour Charity is there to help with support and also leading in scientific advances to create cures / longer and better quality of life.
All the money I raise will be going to The Brain Tumour Charity, the largest dedicated funder of further research into brain tumours globally, so hopefully in the future there will be a cure and also to allow the charity to continue in offering support for families who find themselves in a similar position to my family.
The marathon I will be running is in Sale, Manchester, on the 15th of December if anyone wants to come and support,
Thank you for taking your time to read this and even if you can't donate, just never take any moment for granted with your family and friends as you never know what will happen next. ❤️
Just an update on how my training is going, I am running 3/4 times a week throughout rainy cold Manchester 😂 ranging from 5 - 15K runs and a couple weeks ago I completed a half marathon as well.
So I did it !
26.2 miles completed, it was probably the hardest thing I’ve done in my life, 4 hours and 52 minutes :)
There was definitely times I felt like giving up, especially at around 6 miles in thinking I’ve still got 20 miles to go how am I going to cope, but I thought about everyone that had donated and knew I couldn’t let anyone down.
The feeling at the end to cross the finish line and for my dad to be there is a feeling I will never forget,
Thank you to everyone that donated, I wouldn’t have been able to do it without all the support :)
Here’s some proof so show I did it !
