Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
On 22nd September I plan to cycle approximately 180 miles from my house in Staffordshire to my friend Dan's, in London... In a day.
Along the way I would like to raise some money for The Christie. You can read about the work they do here: https://www.christie.nhs.uk/about-us/about-the-christie/a-profile-of-the-christie
Surprisingly for me, I have not chosen the end destination and charity arbitrarily.
In November 2021, Dan was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. He has since undergone intensive Chemotherapy and major surgery. Thanks to the treatment he received, he is now cancer free. Dan kept a blog of his journey, that you can follow from the start here: https://ebb-and-flow.blog/
As if this alone wasn't reason enough to take on the challenge, in April this year, I had my own diagnosis of testicular cancer. Fortunately, things have been fairly straightforward for me. On 21st April, I underwent surgery to have the tumour removed and have since been given the all clear.
Dan and I will continue to be monitored under the Christie for, possibly, up to a decade. For this reason, I think we'd better send some money their way.
IF and only if, I manage to raise my chosen amount, I will also attempt (emphasis on attempt here), to cycle back from Dan's to mine, bringing the total mileage to somewhere around 360 miles. I anticipate this would take somewhere around 35 hours in total.
