On Saturday 5th April, I will be running the Vale of Glamorgan Ultra Marathon. This is a 52 kilometre trail race between Penarth Pier and Ogmore following the Vale Costal Path. In doing this, I thought it would be a great idea to raise money for Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital, a charity which do fantastic work with supporting children and families, funding life saving equipment and investing in professional excellence.

My gorgeous little niece Marla Bloom Roberts, was born with a complex condition of Tetralogy of Fallot which is a type of congenital heart disease. Unfortunately when Marla was born it became apparent that her condition was a lot more severe than initially anticipated.

Marla was given life saving open heart surgery at 2 weeks old at Bristol Children’s Hospital, which temporarily fixed her heart. In December 2023, Marla had another open heart surgery which continued the work of the temporary fix.

Marla now relies on the hospital for her ongoing cardiology care which includes echo/CT/MRI scans, check ups, surgery reviews, 24/7 urgent drop in care and an allocated specialised cardiology nurse.
