YESTERDAY I HAD A FANTASTIC TIME FLYING. Because of strong winds I could not fly in a traditional flexible wing microlight as planned. Instead I flew in a small gyrocopter. This is a very stable type of helicopter with a powered rear propeller and a free rotating rotor. This is also classified as a microlight aircraft so an excellent substitute. It was very small and cramped but the experience was magnificent. I flew over nearby Marlborough and then the famous stone circle at Avebury. The sun shone brightly making the experience magical for me - added to the fact that the donkeys were benefiting from this. Thanks again for all your support for the donkeys.

Why I am Doing a Fundraising Event for Donkeys by flying in a Microlite aircraft. Date 8 June 2023 at Clench Common, Marlborough, Wilts

Let me start by saying that the whole idea of this at some level is crazy. I am going to fly in something I have never been in before and good people like you are prepared to sponsor me so we can help donkeys. Where is the madness? Is it the love of donkeys? Maybe it’s the idea of you doing this yourself is terrifyingly crazy? Maybe I am just crazy. Maybe it is all of these.

Now none of us are crazy, not me, not you, not donkeys. So, what can I say to encourage your support for Safe Haven for Donkeys?

It is simply this. You are certainly not crazy. Research suggests that donors like us give to charity since it makes us feel good. I want you to feel fantastic in this act of giving.

Think about it a bit more than usual. We have donkeys in real trouble in the West Bank where a lot of problems are caused by poverty, culture and upbringing. We now have three vet and farrier teams covering all the West Bank where we run free clinics and educate the owners, many are children and teenagers.

We also have some 200 rescued donkeys in our sanctuary in Israel. They have come from various backgrounds of cruelty, bad treatment, discarded, unwanted and unloved. Each has its own story. Our staff, vet and farrier simply love caring for each one.

The donkeys are innocent creatures. I have no fear of flying in a microlite so this for me is easy. I will be in the hands of an expert pilot. By the way just writing this has inspired me to do even more for Safe Haven for donkeys.
