George's fundraiser for BCFC Burns Unit Appeal

George Shipley is raising money for BCFC Burns Unit Appeal
In memory of The 56 who lost their lives and the 258 injured in the Bradford City Fire

A 40 mile walk · 1 May 2025

Bradford City FC Community Foundation is BCFC's dedicated charity. 2010 saw the 25th anniversary of the Bradford Fire (11.05.85). This Appeal raises funds for the Plastic Surgery and Burns Research Unit, which facilitated the rehabilitation of the victims of the fire, and continues vital research.

Story

This year, I’m taking on a personal challenge to support the Plastic Surgery and Burns Research Unit (PSBRU), by walking 40 miles over the course of 8 days—5 miles a day. It may not seem like much to some, but after years of playing football and enduring several knee operations, this is a real challenge for me.

The PSBRU was founded by Professor David Sharpe after the tragic Bradford City football club fire disaster in 1985, which took the lives of 56 people and left 258 others injured. We must never forget that devastating day. While we can’t undo the tragedy, we can make a difference by continuing to improve healthcare for those suffering from similar injuries.

Every step I take is a step toward supporting this vital cause. Your donations and support will mean a great deal to everyone helped by the work of the Burns Unit.

Thank you for helping me take on this challenge and for joining me in supporting a life-changing cause
