Story
Hi everyone,
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. I’m raising money for Ataxia UK, a charity that means so much to me and my family. As you may already know my wonderful sister Ruby has Friedreich's Ataxia (FA), a rare and progressive neurological condition that affects movement, coordination, and muscle strength. It’s a life-limiting condition with no cure.
Ruby was diagnosed at just 16 years old, and since then, she has faced her condition with incredible bravery and determination. Despite the challenges of FA, she has achieved so much: graduating with a first-class degree in Animal Management, learning to drive using hand controls, and pursuing her passion for working with animals. But as FA progresses, it continues to take away more of her independence, making everyday tasks harder and harder.
There is hope. A groundbreaking treatment called Omaveloxolone has been developed, which slows the progression of FA. It’s already transforming lives in the US and Europe, but access to this treatment in the UK has been delayed due to funding issues. Every day without treatment means irreversible deterioration for people like Ruby. This is why I’m supporting Ataxia UK they are not only funding vital research into treatments and cures but also providing essential support to families affected by ataxia.
This cause is deeply personal to me, and I want to do everything I can to help. That’s why I’ve decided to run the Hackney Half Marathon to raise funds for Ataxia UK. So, if you would like to support me and my awful knees in this endeavor please donate below.
