In memory of George Pickard

Brighton Marathon 2026 · 12 April 2026 · Start fundraising for this event

BTRC works with a Neurosciences team at Charing Cross and Hammersmith Hospitals (Imperial College London) to promote research into the causes of brain tumours and possible new treatments, to raise public awareness of the desperate need for this research and the current lack of funding.

Story

We are incredibly proud to kick-start our sponsored activities as George’s son Ollie and his team of 12 family members and close friends take on the Brighton Marathon to raise awareness and vital funds for life-saving research. It’s a powerful moment to celebrate George’s legacy 15 years on. Bringing our community together and building momentum that will help accelerate research and change lives.

Runners:

Ollie Pickard, Amelia Pickard, Josh Pickard, Kate Pickard, Ed Pickard, Rory Curran, Jack Pickard, Charlie Pickard, Chris Gardiner, Charles Henderson, Harry Henderson and Matt Henderson.

We’re running to support progress in the treatment and care of brain cancer. Brain tumours have affected many people and families very close to us – including our own. It’s very rare to have a reason for so many family members and close friends to be participating in a challenge of this scale and we’re so proud to be doing so in George’s memory.

For us, representing The George Pickard Programme is an absolute privilege. Our charity’s work speaks to the deep human need for compassion, perseverance, and shared responsibility. Every breakthrough in research, every family helped, and every step toward better outcomes is a reminder that hope grows stronger when communities stand together.
