Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

In 2019 my Dad was diagnosed with a Grade 4 Glioblastoma brain tumour. A routine hearing test, as part of his medical within the fire brigade, led to scans and this final diagnosis. This was devastating news for both my Dad, our family and everyone around him. At the start of April 2020 he had brain surgery to remove the bulk of the tumour followed by intense radiotherapy for 6 weeks. Sadly this tumour is aggressive and he then had to go onto have chemotherapy for 6 months. This wasn’t effective and another tumour grew which led to him having immunotherapy for 6 months which reduced the tumour in size. 5 years on Dad’s tumour remains stable, although unfortunately not in the clear, and he has regular MRI scans to monitor this.

Before this diagnosis my dad had his own building business, was a retained firefighter, first responder and would be always willing to help anyone out. If you know my Dad you know he never stopped!! This all changed my Dad’s life forever. He continues to live with many life changing symptoms due to his tumour. These including aphasia (difficulty formulating language), losing his sight on his right side, fatigue and hearing loss.

Despite this my Dad won’t let this tumour stop him and continues to surprise everyone everyday. He’s found a love for running, particularly enjoying park run on a saturday morning and forever showing the rest of us up with his pace!! Hence I am running London Marathon 2026 in honour of my dad to raise money for Brain tumour support.

They are an amazing charity who provide vital counselling, support and guidance to those with a brain tumour, friends and family. Without this charity my family would have been faced with a much more daunting picture at diagnosis and throughout my Dad’s journey. They were people we could all rely on for help in a very confusing and scary time and they continue to support my Mum and Dad now with support groups.

If you are able to donate anything towards my target I would be hugely grateful. This will allow the charity to continue to help others going through similar experiences.
