Story
In 2021, I received a life-changing diagnosis - choroidal melanoma, a rare and aggressive type of eye cancer. It was a shock to discover how few doctors specialise in treating this condition. Ocular oncology is a niche field that requires years of training and expertise. That's why I am passionate about fundraising for the Victoria Cohen Eye Cancer Charitable Trust (VCECCT). The charity was established in memory of the late Vicky Cohen, an internationally renowned eye cancer specialist who sadly passed away in 2020.
As a proud Ambassador for the VCECCT, my mission is to raise awareness and funds for this incredibly worthwhile cause. Each year, the Victoria Cohen Scholarship provides aspiring Ocular Oncologists with an award of US$40,000 to support their fellowship. The world needs more eye cancer surgeons, and the VCECCT plays a vital role in identifying and training the future leaders in this field.
So what am I doing to make a difference? On October 6th 2024, I will be participating in an ultra marathon 10km swim around Es Vedrà and Es Vedranella in Ibiza. You might be wondering why Ibiza? Well, for my extended family - including my grandparents - Ibiza holds a special place in our hearts. It's not about partying; it's a magical island filled with cherished memories.
As a child, I always gazed at the beautiful islands of Es Vedrà and Es Vendranella and wondered what it would be like to swim to them. Now is the time to turn that wonder into reality! While I've tackled tougher swims before, this one holds even greater significance for me. Over the past few years, I've faced major spinal surgery, undergone cancer treatment, lost vision in one eye, and experienced the joy of becoming a parent.
By supporting me on this journey, you'll be helping fund the future pipeline of ocular oncologists who can save eyes, lives and vision.
Please join me in making a difference by donating to my fundraising page here on Just Giving. Together, we can create hope and transform lives.
