Story

I am running the Great North Run on 7th September 2025 to raise awareness and fundraise for the Miscarriage Association.

Everyone who knows me, knows that I am NOT a runner. Quite frankly I couldn’t think of anything worse! However, after a turbulent 3 years, I have set myself a personal challenge to help channel my grief, to help raise awareness and hopefully make a valuable difference by sharing my story.

Miscarriage is an extremely taboo subject and more needs to be done to raise awareness and support for EVERYBODY affected by miscarriage/recurrent miscarriage.

4 recurrent miscarriages between 2022 and 2024 left me feeling utterly heartbroken, both physically and mentally destroyed, and extremely lonely. The Miscarriage Association proved to be a crucial stepping stone in my journey of finding a cause for my recurrent loss. Following referral to a specialist miscarriage clinic, I was later diagnosed with Anti-phospholipid Syndrome. APS is a blood clotting disorder that occurs when the immune system makes abnormal antibodies that can cause early miscarriage.

The information and support provided by this amazing charity has been invaluable and has made an undeniable difference. The Miscarriage Association is a national charity that offers support and information to anyone affected by miscarriage, ectopic or molar pregnancy. Most of the charity’s income comes from donations and fundraising activities, money raised by people who have been through pregnancy loss themselves or care about someone who has, and who want to help others in a similar situation.

As a lot of you know, I was due to run the GNR for this amazing charity last year (2024). My place was deferred as we embarked on a 5th pregnancy. We welcomed our beautiful baby boy safely into this world on the 21st Feb 2025. Pregnancy after recurrent loss was met with overwhelming fear throughout the entire 9 months. Again something that the Miscarriage Association recognise and support so compassionately.

By supporting me as I participate in the 2025 Great North Run you are helping the Miscarriage Association to ensure that everyone affected by pregnancy loss receives the care, support and information that they need.

Thank you for your amazing support 💙
