Story

💙 My Diabetes Story – 90 Miles in November for Diabetes UK 💙

Growing up with a dad who has lived with Type 1 diabetes for 37 years, it’s something that has always been part of my life. I’ve watched him navigate the daily challenges, the constant management, and everything that comes with living with a condition that never really takes a day off. But although I grew up knowing about diabetes through him, I never truly understood what it was like to live with it myself.

That all changed when I was recently admitted to hospital following high blood sugar and ketone levels. I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes.

Suddenly, something I had watched my dad live with became part of my own life. I began to understand just how much there is to think about every single day, how much it can affect you both physically and emotionally, and how important it is to manage your health. Being diagnosed has been a huge adjustment, and I’m still learning to navigate this new chapter of my life.

It has also made me look at my dad’s journey in a completely different way. For 37 years, he has lived with diabetes, and now I have a much deeper understanding of what that really means. I have so much respect for him and for everyone who faces the challenges of diabetes every day.

Never in a million years did I imagine that diabetes would become part of my own story too. But rather than let this diagnosis hold me back, I want to turn it into something positive and do something that could help other people living with this condition.

That’s why, this November, I’m taking on the challenge of walking 90 miles throughout the month to raise money for Diabetes UK. 💙🚶‍♀️

This challenge means so much more to me than just walking 90 miles. It’s personal. I’m doing it for my dad, who has lived with diabetes for 37 years, for myself as I learn to live with my own diagnosis, and for every other person and family affected by diabetes.

I want to help raise awareness, support the incredible work Diabetes UK does, and contribute towards a future where people living with diabetes have better support, treatments and opportunities.

I know there will be days when the walking feels difficult, when motivation is low, or when life gets in the way. But every time I need a reminder of why I’m doing this, I’ll think of my dad, my own journey, and all the people who face the challenges of diabetes every single day.

Ninety miles might seem like a small thing, but for me, every single mile has a meaning. 💙

If you’re able to donate, no matter how big or small, I would be incredibly grateful. Every donation will help support Diabetes UK and the amazing work they do for people living with diabetes and their families.

If you can’t donate, sharing my fundraiser or supporting me throughout November would mean just as much.

Thank you for taking the time to read my story and for supporting me as I take on this challenge. It means more than you know.

💙 90 miles. 30 days. One very personal reason. 💙

For my dad and his 37-year journey with diabetes. For me and my recent diagnosis. For everyone living with diabetes. And for a future where no one has to face it alone.

Every mile matters. Every donation makes a difference. 💙
