Story
Hi, my name is Georgia. I’m raising money for Young Minds, the children’s mental health charity. I will be doing a skydive from 15,000ft on the 20th June this year. Since I was a child, I’ve massively struggled with anxiety. During my youth, my anxiety was put down to the fact that I was a sensitive child and just generally an anxious person. As I went through my teenage years I began self harming; it consumed my every thought. After seeking help through CAMHS (child and adolescent mental health services), I was dismissed due to my risk not being urgent enough at the time, I further deteriorated which resulted in numerous hospital admissions causing trauma. Eventually I was diagnosed with depression and C-PTSD.
After being in and out of the service for four years, CAMHS eventually assigned me a psychologist who I worked with for around 6 months. She taught me healthier ways to cope and manage my distress, along with helping me understand myself. She was incredible.
I have now been clean from self harm for 2 years in May, reaching the 1 year milestone was such a surreal feeling. I worked really hard in college, enabling myself to get into uni where I now study Psychology in Liverpool.
I hope that in the future I can change the lives of young people experiencing similar struggles.
By raising money I hope that we can bring the waiting times down and give young people the support they deserve at the right time. I firmly believe that if I received help when I first sought it, many situations and additional trauma could’ve been avoided. I hope that by raising money, young people won’t feel like they have to deteriorate further in order to receive help.
Any donations would be massively appreciated to help me reach my goal.
Thank you xx
