Story
This 10K is about more than a personal challenge — it’s about supporting people I work alongside and believe in every day.
I work at the Recovery Hub, part of SSJ, within the Criminal Justice Team, and I’ve also worked across the homelessness sector. Through this work, I’ve seen how experiences such as trauma, loss, poor mental health, addiction, and involvement with the criminal justice system can intersect and create significant barriers. Homelessness is rarely a single issue — it’s often the result of multiple challenges happening at once.
SSJ takes a compassionate, person-centred approach, walking beside people rather than expecting them to navigate complex systems alone. The charity provides accommodation and tailored support that recognises people’s individual needs, strengths, and circumstances — helping them access the support we should all be able to rely on.
On a personal level, this run is also about change and commitment. I want to improve my health, lose weight, and complete something I’ve never done before by running a 10K. Training has been challenging at times, but that feels meaningful for a cause that’s about persistence, growth, and believing that change is possible with the right support.
I know money is tight for many people, so please don’t feel any pressure to donate. Any contribution, no matter how small, helps SSJ continue their vital work. Sharing this page or offering encouragement is just as appreciated. Thank you for supporting me, and for supporting SSJ in their work to help end homelessness.
