Ophelia, ‘to help and aid’. Raising money in our stillborn daughter’s name.

Georgina Bainbridge is raising money for Sheffield Hospitals Charity
In memory of Ophelia

National Three Peaks Challenge · 2 July 2026

We help Sheffield’s hospitals, community teams, mental health and specialist services to cover costs their NHS budgets can’t. We fund support for patients and staff, life-changing research and more, so that we can enhance care from birth to the end of life and everything in between.

Story

On 6th March 2026, our hopes and dreams for the future were shattered when our beautiful daughter, Ophelia, was born sleeping. I carried her for 34 weeks and, as a family, we were so excited for her arrival. After running into complications with my pregnancy, we were referred to Jessops Wing in Sheffield, where Ophelia was later born sleeping.

Whilst nothing prepares you for what we had to face, the care we received at Jessops Wing was nothing short of incredible. Although the loss of Ophelia is unbearable, we will cherish the time we got to spend with her. Once Ophelia was born, we were moved to a special ‘tulip room’ for bereaved parents. Designed more like a hotel room than a clinical space, this room provided comfort and privacy for us to make treasured memories with her. With us being on the labour ward, this room was also soundproofed, meaning we were less likely to hear other babies being born. Having this space and a cold cot gave us precious time to cuddle, sing, read with Ophelia, and have family visit before we had to say goodbye and leave hospital without our beautiful baby. Something no parent should ever have to do.

The amazing care we received didn’t end with the tulip room; it was all incredible. We want to raise money to give back in Ophelia’s name to help and aid other parents in this devastating situation. All funds raised will go to Sheffield Hospitals Charity, who funded not only the tulip room but many other things that we used during this really difficult time. They helped fund the bereavement suite and garden which meant we could be with Ophelia outside and spend time together as a family. Donations also help provide memory making items and keepsakes that we, and others alike, will keep forever. They also provide books for parents and siblings to try and help understand and process.

We are hopeful that a second tulip room will be opened on the labour ward. If that can happen, donations could help towards this (e.g. furnishings). This is definitely needed. Unfortunately, we weren’t the only parents going through this as we had to wait for other bereaved parents to leave the room before we could go in. It is heartbreaking to think of others in this pain too which is why we’re fundraising specifically for Bereavement Services at Jessop, to help and aid families like ours.

We will be doing the National Three Peaks Challenge, climbing the highest peaks in Scotland (Ben Nevis), England (Scafell Pike), and Wales (Snowdon) aiming to complete it in under 24 hours. To make it even more challenging my husband, Ollie, will be climbing with a boiler on his back! We are aiming to finish the climb on 2nd July 2026, as this is a date close to our heart for several reasons.

Please help us raise money towards this invaluable space for parents going through such unbearable pain.

Love and thanks from

Ophelia’s Mummy and Daddy,

Georgina and Ollie
