Barefoot Challenge · 16 July 2023

We provide cooked meals three times a week and the chance to do something to improve personal circumstances regarding shelter, drug and alcohol dependency, financial worries, mental and physical health. We signpost our guests to specialist agencies and welcome agency staff to our sessions.

Story

There is a place where thousands of men, women, and children wear footwear that is not fit for purpose. And at least 280,000 homeless people (10,000 living on the streets) have no shoes or shoes that are falling to pieces, and that place is the UK.

My name is Freya and I am 10 years old. I have decided to go barefoot for a week in aid of Devizes Opendoors. Devizes Opendoors is a charity that has been set up to help people in the Devizes Community Area to find solutions to homelessness; to offer support to local people when they are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless and to benefit local individuals in need, including the marginalised and vulnerable. They provide four cooked meals a week at Southbroom Centre, Victoria Road. There are approximately 15 to 30 Guests at most of their drop-in sessions. Along with good food and company, there is the chance of a shower, hot drinks and support from staff and volunteers.

I will not be wearing shoes or socks for a whole week starting Monday 17th July at school, in town and on dog walks. because I want to raise as much money for Devizes Opendoors as possible.
