Ataxia Challenge 2026

Geraint Williams is raising money for Ataxia UK

Ataxia Challenge 2026

10,500 people in the UK have ataxia which is a progressive neurological condition that disrupts the messages sent from our brains to our muscles that are used to move, speak, listen and see. Ataxia UK funds research into finding treatments and a cure and provide support until they are found.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Hi, I'm Geraint, 47 years old and living in South Wales. I was diagnosed with Freidriech's Ataxia (FA) around 20 years ago. FA affects my balance, co-ordination and mobility.

To achieve the fundraising target, I will be completing 8 events along with my son Sam. The Paris and Edinburgh Marathons. The Berlin Half Marathon , The Great North Run and The 4 Castles Challenge (four individual half marathons: Snowdon, Caernarfon, Conwy, and Bangor (completed within a calendar year).

As I have difficulty walking unaided I will be using an adapted wheelchair called a Mountain Trike. I have used 'Trigger' the Mountain Trike for other challenges that I have completed, including The London Marathon and the Berlin Marathons, Tough Mudder challenges, 12 Half Marathons in 12 months, a Triathlon, Climbing Pen Y Fan 10 times and the ascent of Kilimanjaro.

Ataxia is a rare condition (it affects around 1 in every 50,000), with many people not being aware of it. Hopefully, this challenge will raise the profile of Ataxia UK and bring much needed funds and awareness.
