Hi my name is Suzanne and I'm a community nurse working within the NHS. I am also a mum to a special little boy called Leo. Leo lives at home with his mum, dad james and sister Mia.
After having what we thought was a normal pregnancy and normal scans, we found out when leo was just 5 months old that he had a condition called lissencephaly. Leo started to have strange Jerking movements which lead us to think something was wrong, we took Leo to a & e a few times before we were took seriously, then we were admitted to hospital where they did a few tests, after an eeg and MRI, we got the devastating diagnosis that are little boy has lissencephaly. Lissencephaly affects tone, feeding difficulties and leo will have hard to control seizures. Leo is none mobile and is none verbal. We are fundraising to help us get our home adapted. We need a wet room and downstairs bedroom to meet Leo's needs. As Leo is a full time wheelchair user we also need our porch adapted and a ramp put in. We are lucky to have £30,000 dfg grant and £20,000 top up, which gives us a total of £50,000 however, we still have a short fall of £28,218.13. As our adaptions are £78,218.13 in total. We have never asked for funding before but we now feel like we have no choice.
Thanks for taking the time to read Leo's story.
