Gianina's fundraiser for War Paws Charity

Gianina Sanders is raising money for War Paws

Richmond Half Marathon · 19 April 2026

War Paws was created to provide a voice and make the difference for the forgotten animals of war. We feel that the only way to make the difference that is needed is not to just try and remove the animals from war zones and areas of civil conflict, but instead, we aim to provide education for the local populations, provide information and encouragement on better animal welfare and animal husbandry and to promote happy and healthy ownership of animals.

Story

Hi, I am running the richmond half marathon due to the urgent appeal for funds for war paws charity. The charity where my two babies Jan 🐶 & Angie 🐶 came from in Iraq.

They are facing the biggest crisis in their history, and they urgently need our help.

They were notified that they are being evicted from the land where their shelter and clinic currently operate.

For almost 7 years, the land has been home to hundreds of animals who would otherwise have nowhere to go.

Now, their home is at risk.......

Today the shelter includes:

• Large kennels and defined sections for the animals

• Fully concreted grounds for hygiene and safety

• A functioning veterinary clinic

• Staff accommodation

• Improved access roads

• Shaded areas and 13 swimming pools for dogs living outside the walls

Over the years, they have invested $300,000 – $350,000 building the shelter, a shelter that not only belongs to the dogs but also to people whom have supported the cause.

Every £, $, € came from people like you who believe these animals deserve a chance.

The Crisis they Now Face-

The local government has offered them a new piece of land just 300 meters away, but only under the same temporary, semi-formal agreement that caused this situation in the first place.

They are negotiating for a proper long-term agreement, but the reality is clear:

If they are forced to move, they will have to rebuild the entire shelter from scratch.

And they simply do not have the $350,000 needed to do that.

They also do not know how much time they will be given before they must move.

What Happens If We Cannot Rebuild

This is the hardest part to say.

If they cannot secure land and raise the funds to rebuild the shelter, they could face the heartbreaking possibility of euthanizing the 130 dogs currently inside the shelter, along with hundreds more outside who rely on them for food, water and medical care.

As development continues in the area, these animals will lose their only source of food, water and shelter.

War Has Made Things Even Harder

They cannot win this battle alone.

Please Help us Save the Shelter ♥️🫶🏻♥️

These animals have already survived war, abandonment, and unimaginable hardship and cruelty.

War Paws became their safe place, a place where they learned love.

Now we must fight to protect and their home.

Please stand with us.

Please donate if you can.

Together, we can save their future.
