Story
On June 1st I will be running the Stockholm Marathon followed by the Ilkley Half Marathon in July in support of and to raise money for Live Life Give Life, an organ donation Charity that aims to spread the awareness of the importance of being an organ donor and how it can change someones life!
Back in 2016, my father fell ill after a family holiday away to Crete - however upon coming home, he had carried on with the long hours at work and ultimately lead to him collapsing in December while at work. He was diagnosed with Cirrhosis of the liver and was put on the list for a liver transplant.
We put out pleas for donors, but with my father's rare blood type - it was difficult to find the perfect match. With months going by, not much luck, and his health deteriorating, doctors didn't know if he would survive long enough for a suitable donor to be found.
Luckily, the day before his birthday, a liver became available and he was rushed into surgery. He woke up on his birthday, with a new liver and smiling.
Now, 8 years on, and we still haven't been able to top that birthday present.
