Gianni's fundraiser for 'Chain of Hope'

Gianni Austin is raising money for Chain of Hope

Team: Imperial Bioengineers Run for Chain of Hope :)

Royal Parks Half Marathon 2025 · 12 October 2025 ·

It is estimated that as many as 15million children die or remain severely ill every year through potentially treatable or preventable cardiac diseases. Chain of Hope exists to provide children from developing countries affected by life-threatening heart disease with the treatment to save their lives

Story

I chose to study Biomedical Engineering because cardiac problems plagued my childhood. I will never forget the day I found out my dad’s heart had failed…I will never forget the day I was told I had Myocarditis and Pericarditis…(please read below).

🫀I’m an Imperial College Bioengineering undergraduate raising money to help children in Gaza, and other vulnerable areas globally, receive cardiac care🫀

⁉️How?⁉️ On the 12th October 2025, I will be running the Royal Parks Half-Marathon with 3 of my closest friends (Emil Uddevik, Sophia Mok, Dameer Ahmed)!

🙏 Please, please, please donate if you can to help save the children: https://www.justgiving.com/page/gianni-austin?utm_medium=FA&utm_source=CL

My story:

I chose to study Biomedical Engineering because cardiac problems plagued my childhood. I will never forget the day I found out my dad’s heart had failed. I will never forget the years he endured, only surviving because a mechanical pump (Left Ventricular Assist Device) was pushing blood around his body for him. I will never forget the times he was called for a heart transplant, and the day it actually happened. I will never forget the day I left my volunteering shift at the British Heart Foundation and received a call from Harefield Hospital who told me that I, at 17 years old, had Myocarditis and Pericarditis.

I will always be grateful to the NHS doctors, nurses and all other staff who saved both my life and my dad’s. The NHS is special, and only when you can appreciate that, can you appreciate the dread that one must feel in a country where cardiac care, let alone free cardiac care, is unavailable.

This is why when I was told about this opportunity by my friend last week, I immediately said yes. Up till then, I had accumulated 0km of running in 2025 and my lifetime furthest distance was 5km, which I ran a PB for in 2020. I don’t run😂

Since then I have run my first 10km, have accumulated over 20km, and I’m excited to push myself to complete the run in under 2 hours.

My story aside, your donation will help save the lives of the most vulnerable children in the world. I would be so grateful, as will the children, their families, the volunteers and the staff involved for your help. As Tesco say, every little helps🙏
