Story
Pretty much everyone who may know or come into contact with me at some point or other knows how passionate I am about parkrun and the benefits it brings not only to individuals through participation but to communities and to those who volunteer.
I’ve been really lucky recently and managed to secure a ballot place not only for the Berlin Marathon in September 2026 but Chicago Marathon in October 2026 and now London Marathon in April 2027.
I started being involved in parkrun in September 2013 just before I secured my first ballot place in the London Marathon in April 2014. It wasn’t until I started parkrunning and volunteering at Bracknell parkrun that I really got the parkrun bug. It was at Bracknell where I first became a Run Director before becoming an Event Director at Bracknell juniors. Since February 2019 my heart has belonged to California Country parkrun when it was activated and I was part of the RD team. I’ve gone on to be an Event Support Ambassador and now a Regional Event Ambassador.
My biggest joy and proudest moments have been not only at Cali but at the events we’ve activated in Berkshire bringing both junior and 5k parkruns to communities.
The impact Cali has had on the community has been profound watching our young volunteers build confidence doing their Dukes of Edinburgh Awards and returning for their next award or just because they want to, the parkrunners who have surgeries and then return to volunteer before being able to participate again and it wouldn’t be right not to mention our most amazing Ruby who we all still miss so much and gets many “good mornings” as her bench is passed each Saturday morning.
parkrun is more than just a run in a park 🥰
parkrun provides free, weekly opportunities for people to be active and social through the delivery of local community based 5k and 2k events in countries around the world. Committed to breaking down barriers to participation, parkrun events are simple, scalable and open to everyone.
