Gill Savage is raising money for Friends of the Royal Marsden Chelsea

Squats 100 a day completed during February 2026

For almost 90 years, the Friends of The Royal Marsden, Chelsea has been supporting the work of the hospital in its treatment and care of patients and families affected by cancer by providing funds for the purchase of equipment, services and amenities for the benefit of patients, their carers and staff. They also provide hands on voluntary support with almost 150 volunteers who annually, contribute around 20,000 hours of their time in various areas of the hospital. In 2019 the Friends was awarded The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service, the highest award given to any voluntary group in the UK.

Story

At the beginning of February , 2026, I decided that I would try to complete 100 squats for month 28 days . I txt my sister each day to record my achievement / progress. It was very hard at first but I kept going . The last week I was doing two lots of 50 squats and sometimes 100 in one go ! I’m proud to say I completed 2,800 squats .

Five years ago I was diagnosed with a very rare Sarcoma cancer . It wasn’t a straightforward diagnosis but the treatment, five weeks of radiotherapy , removal of tumour and unsuccessful skin grafts meant that my recovery was slow and emotionally exhausting ,

Without the support and care from the doctors, nurses at The Royal Marsden I would not be writing this now .

It would be wonderful if my fundraising could contribute to help other people who are having to fight this cancer
