Length of the UK Virtual Challenge. Lands End to John O' Groats · 1 February 2023

Three.Counties Dog Rescue, a registered charity, was formed in 1972. We re-home dogs and cats in Lincolnshire, Rutland, Leicestershire, Cambridgeshire, Northamtonshire and Nottinghamshire. All our rescue work is voluntary and unpaid. Every penny raised goes directly to helping animals in need.

Story

I am a volunteer for Three Counties Dog Rescue.  Like most charities, things have become a lot harder for us recently.  We were hit very hard by the pandemic and of course the current financial situation.  I have been thinking for a while what I could do to help raise funds. It needs to be something that I can do easily and in my own time.

For many years now, I have made sure to walk at least 11, 000 steps a day. (Aprox 4.5 miles) Sometimes this is walking in the countryside  but more often than not it is walking at home. This suits me as I can fit it in whenever I have a spare few minutes or half an hour.  In the warmer months I will walk in the garden.  When it is cold, I walk in our garage.  (It is a big, long garage. Lol. )  While I am walking, I read books on my phone or Kindle.

At the beginning of this year I came across a company called The Conqueror Challenges.  They have virtual walks of various lengths and they award medals for completion. You can check out all the details here: https://www.theconqueror.events/

I have already completed 2 of their challenges this year. The English Channel (21 miles) and The Cotswold Way (97 miles).  My next challenge is the length of the UK.  Lands End to John O' Groats.  A distance of 1084 miles.  As I registered for this challenge it occured to me that although it is just for my own personal pleasure, I could actually do it as a sponsored walk and try and get some much needed money for Three Counties.

It took me 2 weeks to complete The Cotswold Way, averaging around 6 miles a day.  Sometimes less, sometimes more. The length of the UK challenge is 1084 miles so if I can keep up the same pace I should be able to complete it in 6 months. (Hopefully)!

I am starting on the 1st of February 2023 and aim to finish on the 31st of July 2023. I will be updating here regularly with details and photos of where I am on the route.  I will be extremely grateful for any money you can spare to sponsor me.  The dogs  will also be very happy!  If you would like to see some of our dogs and find out more about us, check out the website: https://threecountiesdogrescue.org/
