Beatson Cancer Charity supports people affected by cancer, every step of the way. We make the journey easier by transforming the way cancer care is funded and delivered. We provide services, as well as funding specialists, research and education to invest in a better future for cancer patients.

Story

THANK YOU SO MUCH for your generous donations for The Beatson Cancer charity. I am overwhelmed by the generosity and kindness shown. My legs are in agony but it's been so worth it. Great company with Wendy, Judith and Fiona and amazing memories. And the lurgy didn't stop me!

Thank you, Gill xx

Friends mean the world to me and when Wendy, my wonderful friend who I've known since playgroup, asks if I want to walk with her (physically or metaphorically!) then I'm there.

Read her story below and please sponsor us - Wendy, Judith, Fiona and me in memory of Russell. One of the funniest guys I've met, who I was fortunate to share one of my biggest adventures with when we (with Wendy, Fiona and Rob) trekked in Nepal and who is missed terribly.

I fundraise in memory of Russell but also for others in our lives who have been taken by cancer, for those who are living with cancer, for those who have beaten cancer and for those who will be affected by cancer in the future.

Please sponsor us for the Edinburgh Kiltwalk 2025. We need all the help we can get walking these 20 miles - even though Judith thinks she'll do it in 2 hours 🤣

Gill xx

Wendy's post-

I’m 48 today! 4 years older than my beautiful, brave, amazing husband and best friend Russell was when he died.

Russell beat Oesophageal cancer and 2 brain tumours, undergoing hours and hours of surgeries, chemotherapy and radiotherapy at the Beatson Cancer Centre, Glasgow Royal Infirmary, Forth Valley Royal Infirmary and Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow. He was so well looked after, and thanks to the NHS staff at all of those places and his sheer strength and determination, he pulled through each diagnosis. With one last sharp twist of fate and a devastating blow, we discovered the cancer had metastasised again and with no treatment options left, Russell died from Leptomeningeal disease on 28.12.21

On my 48th birthday, I’m choosing to celebrate life, to embrace being one year older when so many don’t get that chance! And what better way to celebrate being fit, healthy and (well into) my forties, than by committing to another physical challenge and raising some more much needed funds for the fabulous Beatson Cancer Charity who supported Russell in his illness and have been supporting us ever since!

In 8 weeks time, I am taking on the Edinburgh KiltWalk with 3 of my oldest friends! There’ll be a lot of laughs, maybe some tears and definitely a few drinks at the end - celebrating Russell, all those fabulous memories and raising some money for the Beatson! So please, if you can, give a little to help all those who need the Beatson!
