Story

Chickenshed champions difference through inclusion, to enrich lives and transform our world. Through inclusive theatre we aim to empower individuals, change hearts and minds, and transform institutions.

1200 children and young people access our inclusive arts and education programmes each week. We establish platforms from which our young people can both speak to and listen to their community.

We are unique in developing and celebrating the creative energy of people who would never normally meet, much less have the opportunity to work together to produce life changing theatre.

As well as offering over 250 performances per year, we are also an educational establishment delivering Further and Higher Education courses. With Children' and Youth Theatre membership schemes for 5 21 year olds and an ongoing programme of outreach projects working with some of the hardest to reach communities, Chickenshed truly represents Theatre Changing Lives.

I really don't like the word disabled. So I call myself extra different. The word disabled means I can't do something even though I can. I do a lot. To me, extra different means that I have an extra thing in my body and, I don't know, it's hard to explain, basically, it makes me feel extra special.
