GJE x Hackney Foodbank Supermarket Sweep
On 18 September 2025, a team of 20 volunteers from Gill Jennings & Every LLP (GJE) will be hitting the aisles as we take on the Hackney Foodbank Supermarket Sweep Challenge!
Using one of GJE's volunteer days, we’ll start with a visit to the Hackney Foodbank warehouse in Homerton to learn more about the increasing need for food support in our local community and how the foodbank is making a difference every day.
Next comes the main event: the Supermarket Sweep Challenge. Armed with a shopping list of urgently needed items, a map, bags, trolleys - and a few surprise challenges along the way - we’ll race around local supermarkets in a two-hour sweep to gather as much as we can. Points are awarded for the total weight of items, completing the shopping list, collecting bonus “starred” goods, and snapping photos at key locations en-route.
The day finishes back at the warehouse for a weigh-in and score tally, where one team will claim the coveted shopping trolley trophy.
Why we're doing it
The cost-of-living crisis continues to hit many households hard, and Hackney Foodbank is seeing record demand for support. This challenge is one way we can give back and help restock their shelves with the most needed essentials.
What we’ve done so far
This event follows some of our recent fundraising efforts for Hackney Foodbank, including:
- A green-themed bake sale at our office; and
- The GJE Dash for Hackney Foodbank, where a team of 17 ran the 5.6km JP Morgan Corporate Challenge in Battersea Park.
Help us reach our goal
We’re aiming to raise £1,400 to support Hackney Foodbank, and we’d love your help to get there.
Whether it’s the cost of a coffee or a bigger donation, every penny counts and will help provide vital food and support to local people in crisis.
Thank you in advance for your generosity and support.
About Hackney Foodbank
Hackney Foodbank was launched 12 years ago to help tackle food poverty, and support people in crisis with compassion and dignity. They do this by providing emergency food, which offers practical, immediate relief in moments of crisis, and by connecting people with local organisations who can help them to address the root causes and wider effects of poverty in their lives. In 2023, Hackney Foodbank provided emergency food for an average of 630 people per week – a 55% increase on the year before, while facilitating connections to relevant support including financial management, debt and housing advice, and mental health organisations.
