The Glasgow veterinary school rugby and football clubs are taking part in Movember growing some great and somewhat questionable moustaches to fundraise money for The Canmore Trust,
For your reference: the before and after pictures will be posted here and on our instagram pages: @GUVSRFC and @Glasgowvetfootball.
This cause is special to us as a club because a former club member and a great friend to many of us Cameron Gibson, who graduated with BVMS from Glasgow Vet School in 2018 and was working as a large animal vet in late 2019, committed suicide.
His death has been shocking for his family, his friends and his colleagues. We know that the suicide rate in the veterinary profession is four times the national average and research work is already underway to identify the underlying issues contributing to this. Cameron's family have established The Canmore Trust (SC051511) in his memory. The Trust has gained significant traction within the veterinary community and is working in suicide prevention and suicide postvention. It has some gutsy aims, including ensuring that suicide safety planning is part of the national schools curricula in the UK. GUVSRFC and GUVSFC are delighted to support The Canmore Trust and to partner with them through Movember.
