Venice to Milan Cycle Challenge · 25 May 2025

Birdshot Uveitis Society is a charity & support group that offers advice & information to people affected with the potentially blinding, rare eye condition known as Birdshot Uveitis. Currently there is no cure, so we also raise funds to improve treatment and also increase public awareness.

Story

This May, I’m taking on a truly gruelling challenge: cycling 400km from Venice to Milan in just three days, with over 4,200m of climbing, including the notorious Colle di San Zeno. That’s right, one man, one bike, and a whole lot of Lycra padding, all in the name of something much bigger than sore legs and saddle sores.

I’m doing this to raise funds and awareness for the Birdshot Uveitis Society, a charity supporting those affected by Birdshot Chorioretinopathy, a rare, sight-robbing autoimmune eye condition. Most people have never heard of Birdshot until it affects them or someone they love. There is no cure and the treatments available are harsh, with serious side effects.

Birdshot causes blurred vision, night blindness, floaters, and extreme sensitivity to light. If left untreated, it can lead to permanent sight loss. Yet, because it’s so rare, research and awareness are drastically underfunded.

That’s why I’m pushing myself to the limit, because every kilometre cycled helps fund crucial research into treatments that are less brutal and more effective, and supports those navigating life with this invisible illness.

If you’re able to donate, no amount is too small. Your support means the world. Every bit helps justify the pain, the sweat, the uphill battles (both literal and metaphorical), and makes each gruelling mile worth it.

Let’s do something amazing together.

💙 Support Birdshot. Support sight.

🚴‍♂️ Help me turn the pain into progress.
