Story
A simple case of Strep A on New Year's Eve 2022 was about to alter my life.
My weekly routine as an enthusiastic outdoor person, teacher, softball player, rugby league player, and Hampshire Search & Rescue volunteer came to an halt.
Strep A quickly developed into a severe leg infection and sepsis. I spent the the next 16 days Southampton University Hospital the QA Hospital in Portsmouth.
At one point, it seemed I might not survive, but the NHS performed an incredible job saving both my legs and my life. Life after sepsis was challenging but I found remarkable support online through the UK Sepsis Trust, they helped me navigate what I can only describe as some very dark days.
I consider myself fortunate to have left the hospital with all my limbs intact. Many others are not so lucky, and this charity also provides support to families who have lost loved ones, in addition to raising awareness this devastating illness.
After two years of recovery, including a broken leg (a story for another time), I am now fit enough to fund raise for the outstanding charity THE UK SEPSIS TRUST.
In 2025, I plan to undertake the challenge the Isle of Skye Trail (89 miles). I understand that donations can be difficult with many amazing charities out there so my goal is find 2500, people to contribute £2 each, aiming for a total of £5,000.
Part 1 of the Skye Trail has already been completed, and while it was extremely challenging, I am returning in August for Round 2. The Coast to Coast Walk and West Highland Way have postponed to 2026.
