Story
Earlier this year, we lost our incredible Mum, after a long, hard, and truly heart-breaking fight with Alzheimer's Disease.
Before Mum's diagnosis, I knew very little about dementia. Dementia is not a natural part of the aging process. It is an umbrella term for a collection of diseases (of which Alzheimer's is the most common), all of which slowly, bit by bit, steal the person you know and love.
A person is diagnosed with dementia every 3 minutes, and one in three of us will develop it in our lifetime. That is a terrifying statistic. Research is our only chance of changing the ending for people affected by dementia and their families. Alzheimer's Research UK is funding scientists and researchers, helping them to find new ways to diagnose dementia, develop new treatments and ultimately find a cure.
I am running the Great North Run, Britain’s biggest and most iconic half marathon, in memory of Mum, to raise some money for ARUK, in the hope that something positive can come from our loss.
Please give whatever you can. Your support is hugely appreciated.
