Story
Hello All,
Thank you for visiting my page 🙏🏿
I have started this page in memory of my younger sister Loretta Nelson, who sadly passed away last year, November 2024. Loretta was a truly beautiful girl who lived life to the full, a warm, brave, people person, who was much loved.
My sister first began to suffer with mental health problems not too long after our mother passed away from breast cancer in 2007. Loretta had just become a mum herself and within weeks she had to navigate both motherhood and grief. Unfortunately it wasn’t too long before her mental health started to deteriorate.
In November last year after many years of battling mental illness and the many other problems it inevitably causes, I got the call no one ever wants to receive, it was to tell me my little sister, Loretta had died. Deep down as I saw her deterioration, it was a fear I always had and sadly it came to be true. While this past year has been difficult as I process her passing and all the events that lead up to it, I want to make sure Loretta is remembered for the amazing woman, mother, daughter and sister she was.
To do this I have decided to challenge myself in becoming the fittest and healthiest version of myself in her honour, while also raising awareness on the many ways Mental illness affects the lives of not only those suffering but also the family members who often suffer in silence as they navigate the unfamiliar, watching loved ones suffer and disappear before their eyes under the weight of their diagnosis.
I aim to talk about the challenges we face as families and communities with mental health and life while I push myself each day to train and eat healthily.
My journey will start on January 1st 2026, which marks Loretta’s birthday 💙
The goal: 12.5k steps daily to achieve 10km within 30 days.
I will also use a bike as a way of successfully completing the 10km.
After my own health concerns this is a challenge that will help me in committing to be my best self mentally and physically as I proudly honour my sisters legacy
Loretta, I’ll love you always and forever.
Your big brother, Godfrey
