Story
My name is Sophie. As many of you know, Iām an avid golfer. Golf has been a passion of mine since I was 8 years old, and one of the biggest reasons I got into the sport was because of my cousin Jake.
Jake has carried my golf bag through countless rounds, including one unforgettable trip to Spain where I made my first ever hole-in-one at the age of 14. That moment is etched in my memoryānot just for the shot, but because he was right there beside me.
In January 2021, at just 32 years old, Jake was diagnosed with a rare genetic condition called Gardnerās Syndrome (FAP). It was discovered after hundreds of precancerous polyps were found in his bowel, small intestine, and stomach. Jake underwent a major surgery, a proctocolectomy, to remove his colon in hopes of staying ahead of the cancer. But this condition has no cure. Itās a lifelong battle.
Jakeās strength, humour, and resilience through all of this have inspired me. So now itās my turn to carry something for him.
šÆ The Challenge:
On October 12th 2025, Iāll be running the Manchester Half Marathon- with a full set of golf clubs on my back.
Yes, 13.1 miles with my golf bag strapped on, in honour of Jake, and to raise awareness for Gardnerās Syndrome and support research and treatment for bowel cancer.
Iām also attempting to set a Guinness World Record for the Fastest Half Marathon Carrying Golf Clubs (Female).
š Why This Matters:
Gardnerās Syndrome is extremely rare and under-researched. By raising awareness, we can help support vital research into both the syndrome and the broader fight against bowel cancer, which affects thousands every year.
šÆ My Goals:
⢠Raise £1,000+ for Bowel Cancer UK
⢠Raise awareness about Gardnerās Syndrome (FAP)
⢠Honour Jakeās journey and resilience
⢠Set a Guinness World Record (and maybe make you smile along the way)
š How You Can Help:

3. Cheer Me On ā Whether itās online or on the course, your support means the world.
Letās make this run count. For Jake, for others facing this fight, and for the families who need hope.
