Story
Hi, my name is Katy and I'm completing the Steps for Change fundraiser for Changing Faces, the UK’s leading charity supporting people living with a scar, mark, or condition on their face or body.
It’s a charity that provides life-changing mental health, wellbeing, and skin camouflage services—and one that’s very close to my heart, as I also live with a visible difference.
I was born with a craniofacial condition called Goldenhar Syndrome which can cause incomplete development of the bones and muscles on just one side of the face and defects in the eyes, mouth, ears and spine. I also have another condition called Scoliosis which caused my spine to curve.
From May 11th–17th, I’m challenging myself to walk 15,000 steps over 7 days. For some, that might not sound like a lot—but for me, it is.
Six years ago, I developed a condition called Type 2 respiratory failure, which means I can experience shortness of breath when walking long distances or climbing stairs. It can be difficult at times, but I don’t let it stop me.
That’s why this challenge means so much to me. I may not be running a marathon, but I’m pushing myself in a way that’s meaningful.
I would love a future where everyone with a visible difference on their face or body has the confidence, support and opportunity to lead the lives they want.
With your support we can help Changing Faces change lives. Thank you so much for any donation you can spare.
Katy. X
