Story
I’m taking part in Walk for Every Loss with Miscarriage UK this Baby Loss Awareness Week.
This cause is deeply personal to us. After multiple miscarriages, our most recent loss was our son, whom I gave birth to on 15 October 2024.
A few days earlier, we had booked a private scan, planning to take my partner’s mum with us so we could share part of our pregnancy journey. During that scan, we watched our son’s heartbeat begin to slow, and then stop.
As devastating as it was, we were given the heartbreaking privilege of being with him when his heart stopped beating. Nothing could have prepared us for giving birth to our little boy and meeting him, knowing we would never watch him grow up.
We will always be incredibly grateful to the team at Paisley, who treated our son with such care, dignity and respect, regardless of how tiny he was. Unlike with our previous miscarriages, we were also able to bring him home, which meant so much to us.
Scotland’s Memorial Book of Pregnancy and Baby Loss Prior to 24 Weeks also allowed our son to be formally recognised and remembered. Because no matter how early a baby is lost, every loss matters. The rest of the world may never have met our baby, but we did. We loved him, and we had imagined a life with him.
At 4pm on Sunday 11 October, I’ll walk 4 miles in memory of our son, the babies we lost before him, and every family affected by pregnancy loss.
By supporting my fundraiser, you’ll help Miscarriage UK continue providing trusted information, compassionate support and greater awareness of pregnancy loss.
Thank you for supporting my Walk for Every Loss and helping us remember the little lives that were loved, wanted and will never be forgotten.
