“Glioblastoma”

Up until April last year it was a word that I had never heard - until it suddenly changed everything.

Glioblastoma is an aggressive, malignant brain tumour with no known cure. Treatment can extend survival, but glioblastoma is resistant to many treatments and recurrence is common.

The impact of a glioblastoma is cruel, devastating families and changing lives forever.

Ed's battle lasted five months and was truly awful. Throughout it all he remained stoic and fought with so much courage, dignity and of course, his customary humour.

He very sadly lost his fight on Wednesday 24th September, passing away peacefully at home. We miss him greatly.

To celebrate Ed’s life and help give back at the same time, I am, with a lot of help, orgainising a Memorial Golf Day in Ed's memory. The Golf Day is taking place on Wednesday 9th September at The Warwickshire Golf Club in Leek Wootton, Warwickshire. Ed had discovered a new found love of golf having recently retired and enjoyed many hours (more like days!!) at The Warwickshire working on his handicap, enjoying the sportsmanship, the banter and the physical demands of the sport - even when he didn't win or lost a ball (or two!).

We will be fundraising on the day through golfing competitions and holding a raffle. Any raffle/prize donations would be most welcome and much appreciated.

We will be raising much needed funds for The Shakespeare Hospice in Stratford Upon Avon. The angels of the 'Hospice at Home' team provided support to me and Ed's family, as well as end of life care for Ed during his last few weeks. Since Ed's passing, I have also benefited from one-to-one bereavement counselling delivered through the Hospice's adult counselling service. We know that the Hospice really do appreciate (and are reliant on), fundraising efforts like this.

When Ed passed away I made a promise that I would do all I could to support the Hospice in being able to continue its much needed and valuable work.
