Story
Hello friends, family, and generous supporters,
I’m excited (and a little nervous!) to share that I’ll be running the London Marathon in April 2025! This isn’t just any marathon—it’s one of the world’s biggest and favourite marathon events, so a major challenge.
So, as well as this being a personal challenge, I am running to make a difference to people living with neurological conditions. Raising funds to support my local Therapy Centre- Compass. A place and a cause that holds a special place in my heart.
About Compass:
Compass Therapy Centre is a community hub - a lifeline for people living with Multiple Sclerosis and other neurological conditions, such as ME, CFS, Fibromyalgia, Parkinson’s, Stroke, Long Covid. I’m sure we all know someone living with a neurological condition. Compass offers specialist physiotherapy, neurorehabilitation, oxygen therapy and complementary therapies, all of which have a profound and positive impact on people’s ability to manage their condition and symptoms, now and throughout their neurological journey. This work empowers them to take control and live the best independent life they can, for as long as they can.
Why I'm Running for Compass:
I realised I need to lose weight and take better care of myself, so since November 2023, I’ve worked hard, lost 40kg weight through adopting a healthier eating plan, with the guidance from Rhona Paterson, my nutritionist, and with gym and exercise support from Jonny Marc-Gillam, our Rehabilitation Manager at Compass. The dedication and encouragement from everyone at Compass have inspired me to take on this marathon challenge. It’s my way of giving back. I hope you’ll join me in supporting this incredible cause.
.
My Challenge Ahead:
I realise running 26.2 miles is no small feat, so this will be an incredible physical and mentally demanding journey but knowing that each step I take raises much needed funds and brings us closer to making a huge difference to people’s lives – this will keep me focused and motivated. I’ve already started my training, and your encouragement will help fuel me through long lonely runs, tired and aching legs, and those wet cold training days.
How You Can Help:
It’s easy, you can donate what you can afford, or simply share this page with others, every bit helps get us one step closer to our goal. Together, we can make a real impact, help Compass, and support their incredible work.
My Promise to You:
In return for your support, I promise to give my all to this - to train hard, and to push myself to the limits through many, many tough miles on race day. I’ll keep you updated every step of the way with training milestones, and on race day itself, you’ll see just how much your support has meant!
Thank you for being part of this adventure and for helping make a difference. Let’s do this together!
With gratitude and determination,
Thanks
Gordon
