Diabetes UK is the charity leading the fight against the UK's devastating and fastest growing health crisis, working to create a world where diabetes can do no harm. It’s a fight that involves all of us – sharing knowledge and taking diabetes on together. Join us.

Story

Living for 27 years with Type 1 diabetes has been a daily challenge, a constant balancing act that demands unwavering attention and vigilance. It's a chronic autoimmune condition where the body's immune system mistakenly attacks and destroys the insulin-producing cells in the pancreas. This means the body can't produce insulin, a hormone crucial for regulating blood sugar levels. Without insulin, glucose builds up in the bloodstream, leading to a cascade of health complications.

The daily reality of Type 1 diabetes involves monitoring blood glucose levels, often every hour of every day, and the administration of insulin through injections or an insulin pump.

Every meal, every snack, every activity requires careful consideration and calculation of carbohydrate intake and insulin dosage. This constant monitoring and management can be exhausting, both physically and mentally. The risk of both short-term and long-term complications, such as hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) and hyperglycemia (high blood sugar), is ever-present, requiring immediate action to prevent serious health issues.

By donating to Diabetes UK, you'll be helping to fund vital research into finding a cure for Type 1 diabetes, as well as supporting those living with the condition. Your generous contribution will help Diabetes UK to:

- Fund groundbreaking research to understand the causes of Type 1 diabetes and develop new treatments and, ultimately, a cure.

- Provide essential support and information to people with diabetes and their families, empowering them to manage their condition effectively.

- Campaign for better access to diabetes care and advocate for the needs of people with diabetes.

- Raise awareness about Type 1 diabetes and its impact, helping to reduce stigma and promote understanding.

Every donation, no matter the size, makes a difference. Thank you for your support in helping to improve the lives of those affected by Type 1 diabetes and working towards a future where this condition can be eradicated.
