Ben Lomond Walk · 3 March 2024

We exist to support All Men’s mental health, improve men's quality of life, expand and enrich men’s connections. We facilitate activities that support positive mental, physical and emotional health and wellbeing for men. We run weekly groups, sessions and activities, facilitated on a peer to peer basis where men can meet in a safe and friendly place, talk openly, be listened to and feel supported without judgment within a confidential setting from people who are equal to you – your peers. Men from all walks of life come together daily/weekly to share their experiences, their struggles and their advice with one another. In our peer support network and groups you are able to talk to other men who have first-hand lived experience of similar situations. Men can come along, take part, have fun, get fit, meet new people. Or men can simply come along, see what we are about and listen without any pressure to talk. This is absolutely fine too.

Story

On 3rd March 2023 we sadly lost our friend and colleague, PC Gordon Humphries.

Gordon was part of the Local Policing Team based at Group 4 Maryhill and his death was a shock to us all.

On 3rd March 2024, Gordon’s anniversary, the team along with others who have known and worked with Gordon from all across the West of Scotland will climb Ben Lomond to raise money for Men Matter Scotland, a charity that provides support and assistance to men struggling with their mental health.

Having visited the charity this week I was amazed at the facilities they provide and also their ambitions to grow. Their facilities include Music rooms, a Gym, training facilities where they teach Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST), a food bank, counselling rooms with access to a counsellor and a street team which currently works around the Drumchapel area and more!

We hope we will raise enough money to support the charity in their mission to start a ‘Street Team’ for the Maryhill area where local Volunteers will engage with the community and identify those in need, directing them towards ongoing support.

Any donations would be greatly appreciated and I know they will be greatly received by the charity allowing them to expand and support more people in crisis across Glasgow.
