Story

Thank you for visiting our page and supporting the Gift of Sight Highfield Relay Team!

On 5th October 20205, I will be running the Clarendon Marathon as part of a four-person relay team with three friends, Andy Adams, Andrew Bateman and Peat Allan. Together, we'll cover the full 26-mile route from Salisbury to Winchester, aiming to finish in under 4 hours - all to raise funds for vision research.

As an ophthalmologist at Southampton Eye Unit, I regularly see the impact of sight loss on patients and their families. While we can treat many eye conditions, delays in diagnosis or access to specialist care can lead to irreversible vision loss. Sadly, we often have to give patients the difficult news that no effective treatment is currently available.

Donations to Gift of Sight help fund groundbreaking research, which my vision science team are undertaking at the University of Southampton. Our dedicated scientists are working hard to understand the causes of blinding eye diseases and develop new treatments to save sight for future patients.

By supporting the team, you’re helping to fund this life-changing research and bring hope to people of all ages affected by sight loss. Every donation, big or small, makes a real difference.

Thank you for your kind support!

The University of Southampton Gift of Sight Appeal is dedicated to funding world-class research into the prevention and treatment of blindness. Sight saving research studies include Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD), retinal diseases, corneal diseases and conditions which affect children's eyesight, including nystagmus, albinism and amblyopia. Ultimately our aim is to beat blindness caused by devastating eye diseases, and we're really grateful for any help you can give. Thank you.
