Story
Last year my challenges included overcoming previous disappointments by completing the 100km Ultra-Trail Snowdonia and also running ten marathons, from Reykjavik to Ljubljana. This year I’m going long. Really long! Really, really long 🏃♂️
I’m attempting to run the Thames Ring 250 mile non-stop ultra, immediately followed by my 15th London Marathon. That’s over 275 miles, 440 kilometres or over 10 back-to-back marathons!
By doing so, I hope to inspire others to support our mission. So thank you for visiting, for showing your support and for encouraging me to keep doing more. Because together, we are beating cancer.
Some context:
Oxford to Cambridge = 100mi; round the entire M25 = 117mi; London to Cardiff = 131mi; Wainright's Coast to Coast - St Bees to Robin Hood's Bay = 182mi; London to Manchester = 200mi; and for my friends in Atlanta, the entire I-285 = 64 miles! Thames Ring 250 is longer and has a 100-hour (four and a bit days) time limit and mandatory kit to carry.

BUT, I need to complete this realistically in 80 hours to revive myself and then get to the marathon start line. IF I finish Thames Ring 250, and only half of those who start will, I'm determined to then finish my 15th London Marathon. Along the way, I expect pain, blisters, cramps, sickness and vomiting, hallucinations and sleep deprivation. I've trained hard and prepared as best I can. My motivation and your support to help beat cancer is what drives me.
Of course, I have many other challenges along the journey, including marathons in Atlanta, Barcelona, Ljubljana and San Sebastian, and ultra-marathons on the South Downs and mountains of the Julian Alps! I’m sure a few more will feature so stay tuned for updates...
I remain truly grateful for your support and generosity. Cancer really does affect us all and nearly one in two of us will have a personal diagnosis in our lives. However together, we are beating cancer. One step, one mile, one pound at a time.
