Story

IF NOT NOW, WHEN?

Dragon’s Back Race®️ awaits

Last year’s challenges were a mix of joy and heartache, completing eight marathons - in Atlanta, Barcelona, London, Ljubljana, San Sebastián, Florence, Malaga, and a final late entry on 28 December to the Phoenix End of Year Marathon in Walton on Thames!

My attempt to complete the Thames Ring 250 mile ultramarathon was curtailed when injury forced me to withdraw at 125 miles. With an unexpected free day on Saturday, I volunteered on our Cancer Research UK stand at the London Marathon Expo. Refuelled with inspiration from so many of our runners, I somehow managed to recover enough to complete my 15th London Marathon two days later. I'll be back for revenge, with another attempt at Thames Ring 250 followed by my 16th London Marathon.

In autumn, I headed back to Slovenia for the Julian Alps UTMB Lake Bled 80k mountain ultramarathon, finishing just 2 seconds under my midnight target, in 14hrs 59mins and 58seconds.

Several other races slotted in between, including Man vs. Horse where my running club, Dulwich Runners, won the overall team prize, numerous half marathons, and more.

Above all the highs and lows, my biggest achievement was undoubtedly fundraising. I was thrilled, humbled and endlessly grateful to have raised another £17,000 for the lifesaving work Cancer Research UK fund.

At the start of this year, my father in law Bob, sadly passed away from lung cancer. My motivation to help beat this disease is endless. My determination to keep challenging myself to raise more money and further that cause, is fearsome.

Stay tuned 👀 for the craziest of crazy challenges in 2026, starting with a "warm up" on 1 February at Dubai Marathon followed two weeks later by Seville Marathon on 15 February. My ultramarathon challenges will include a second attempt at Thames Ring 250 followed by London Marathon and then in autumn, the biggest beast yet. Dragon's Back Race.

Considered to be one of the toughest mountain races in the world, participants need to cover 380km with 16,400m of ascent along the Dragon’s Back of Wales, within challenging cut-off times over the six day event.
