Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving I’m raising money for The Eve Appeal because this cause is incredibly close to my heart.
When I was a junior doctor, I lost my grandmother to ovarian cancer. At a time when I was learning to care for patients and support families through illness, I was also experiencing the heartbreak of losing someone I loved. It was a difficult and defining period in my life.
Her death gave me a deeper understanding of the human side of medicine. Behind every diagnosis is a person, a family, and a future that can be changed in an instant. It made me appreciate the importance of compassion, support, and the difference that awareness and early diagnosis can make.
As women, we often put everyone else first. We carry on through busy lives, dismiss symptoms, or tell ourselves they’re probably nothing. Most of the time they are—but sometimes they’re not. That’s why it’s so important to listen to our bodies and seek advice if something doesn’t feel right.
As a GP, I now see first-hand the importance of early diagnosis and treatment. Earlier recognition of symptoms can make a significant difference, and raising awareness is a vital part of improving outcomes for women affected by gynaecological cancers.
I’m taking on this challenge in memory of my grandmother, whose loss continues to inspire me to support this important cause. By fundraising for The Eve Appeal, I hope to help raise awareness, support research, and contribute towards a future where more women are diagnosed earlier and have access to the care and treatment they need.
