What started as a wholesome girlie holiday to celebrate my 40th birthday quickly turned into a terrible life decision.

Beth and Kelly-who are ultra marathon runners, honestly, who even are they? -casually signed up for Total Warrior. Not wanting to be the boring one, I also signed up… because obviously that made sense at the time.

It wasn’t until I was on the flight home that I realised what I’d actually done.

Reader, I cannot run. I get out of breath going upstairs. If there’s a lift, I’m taking it.

And yet… here we are.

Training has begun (loosely used term), fuelled almost entirely by snacks, vibes, and panic. Our team name is “Will Run for Snacks”, which feels both inspiring and deeply accurate. At this point, the promise of a snack at the finish line is the only thing keeping me going.

On 28th June, against all odds (and probably my better judgement), I will complete Total Warrior.

I’m doing this for Headway — an incredible charity that supports people living with brain injuries, as well as their families. A brain injury can completely change someone’s life in an instant, affecting everything from memory and emotions to everyday independence. Headway provides essential rehabilitation, support, and guidance to help people rebuild their lives — and supports families who are navigating it all alongside them.
