Story
On 26 April 2026, I’ll be running my first Marathon!
I’m running in memory of my grandmother, Wilma, who sadly passed from Alzheimers. I was too young to know her properly, but she was deeply loved, and this run feels like a small way of honouring her memory.
Training for this race has been a great excuse to persuade kind friends to distract me on long runs and explore parts of London I thought I already knew — although it has also revealed a surprising number of “secret” hills the city appears to have been quietly concealing.
Dementia is the UK’s biggest killer:
• Every 3 minutes someone in the UK develops dementia
• 1 in 3 people born in the UK today will develop dementia in their lifetime
After running the Royal Parks Half Marathon for Alzheimer's Society, I decided perhaps a little ambitiously to double the distance and take on the full marathon.
My wonderful step-grandmother, Sue, has also worked for many years with Alzheimer's societies in both Zimbabwe and Canada, which makes supporting this charity feel especially meaningful.
The charity does incredible work supporting people living with dementia and their families today, while also funding vital research for the future.
If you’re able to donate, even a small amount really will make a difference:
• £20 could help provide expert advice to families after a diagnosis
• £50+ helps fund research and specialist support services
Thank you so much for any support, it truly means a lot. And if you’re in London on race day, a cheer somewhere along the route will help carry me over the finish line. ❤️
