Alfred's 100-mile fundraiser for Taxi Charity For Military Veterans

100-mile Challenge

The Taxi Charity For Military Veterans (formerly known as the London Taxi Benevolent Association For War Disabled) was formed in Fulham in 1948. Its object then was to help war veterans, in their homes and hospitals, throughout London and the home counties, by providing entertainment, outings and much needed specialised equipment. Our aim now is simple: to work for the benefit, comfort and enjoyment of military veterans, to the best of our ability. For our annual Worthing outing, we now collect veterans from all over London, including the Royal Hospital Chelsea and other Veterans' Homes, as well as those who still live in their own homes. This amounts to over 300 ex-service men and women and over 130 taxis. In order to fund these outings, we seek donations from the general public and organisations, and we rely on volunteer London licensed taxi drivers to provide their taxis and time for free.

Story

Meet 6-Year-Old Alfred: Taking on a 100-Mile Challenge for Our Heroes 🇬🇧

At just six years old, Alfred is proving that you’re never too young to make a difference.

Inspired by a recent life-changing trip to Normandy for the 81st anniversary of D-Day, Alfred has taken it upon himself to complete a 100-mile challenge in support of the Taxi Charity for Military Veterans. Alongside his family, Alfred had the incredible opportunity to meet some of the heroic veterans who served during the Second World War — and that experience lit a spark in his young heart.

“I want to say thank you to the veterans,” Alfred says. “They’re really brave and kind. I want to help them because they helped us.”

This challenge is Alfred’s way of giving back — one step, pedal, and splash at a time. Alfred will complete the 100 miles by walking, running, cycling, and even swimming, taking his time and putting his heart into every mile. Alfred's goal is to complete his 100th mile in Arnhem on the airborne March, taking place on 6th September 2025.

Why the Taxi Charity?

The Taxi Charity for Military Veterans is a volunteer-led organisation that provides outings, support, and friendship to veterans across the UK. From trips to memorial sites like Normandy and the Netherlands, to social events and essential home visits, the charity makes a real difference in the lives of those who served our country.

Alfred saw firsthand the joy and honour this charity brings to our veterans — and now he wants to be part of that story.

Alfred is also raising funds to purchase WW2 Veteran Harry Archer some replica medals.
