Firstly, I’d like to thank you for taking the time to read my story.

I have been given a great opportunity by Sands charity to take part in the London Landmarks Half Marathon, in memory of my beautiful niece, Hope.

On the 27th of October 2023, my sister-in-law received a devastating call that no parent should ever have to face. My nephew had been involved in a road traffic accident and, despite all the incredible efforts of the emergency services, at just 20 years old, Connor lost his life. The pain any parent would go through is unimaginable.

My brother and sister-in-law found the strength to hold their family together while they were expecting baby Hope. In their words, they were blessed with an angel.

On the 17th of October 2024, I was playing with my twin girls, who are just 10 days older than baby Hope. Suddenly, my nephew was hysterical, banging on the door, shouting that mum needed help and that Hope wasn’t breathing. We live just five doors apart.

We rushed to help Charmaine, and there she was, giving CPR to her baby girl. I couldn’t believe my eyes. I couldn’t believe this was happening. After everything she had already been through with Conner, was this really happening again?

Together, we continued CPR until the paramedics arrived. As a family, we will be forever grateful for everything those professionals did that day. Sadly, baby Hope lost her life to SIDS.

Just like any other day, Charmaine put baby Hope in her cot for her nap. Never did she expect that at just 8 months old, beautiful baby Hope would stay asleep.

As a family, we have been truly heartbroken. The devastation of losing two children is horrific, and nobody should ever have to experience this. The pain and guilt I carry is something I will always live with. Our baby girls should be here today, sharing the most special cousin bond. Every step I run is for you, our precious baby Hope 💛
