Story
I'm raising money for Gingerbread, the charity for single-parent families. They fight to create a world where all single parents and their children thrive.
They campaign against the injustices and challenge the stigmas encountered by single parents every day, and provide information and a support network so that, with Gingerbread, no single parent is ever alone.
I’ll be completing a sponsored walk along the Llangollen canal this August in loving memory of my Grandma Ellen who sadly passed away 5 years ago. My grandma was always my favourite person and my biggest inspiration and anyone who knows me will know how special she was to me and how much I miss her everyday. I have decided to fundraise for Gingerbread, the Uk’s leading charity which provides support for single parents and their children, as I wanted to choose a charity that would be important to Grandma. My Grandma was a single parent and raised her three children, my dad, auntie Doll and uncle Kenny on her own without any support as the world wasn’t as understanding towards single parents as it is today and there was limited support or advice and assistance available to her. Despite this she did everything she could and was an amazing and most of all loving parent and grandparent who would have done anything and everything for her family.
I spent a long time with my auntie choosing a charity that we believe would be special to my grandma and I hope any money I raise will make a big difference to single parents in her memory. Thank you for reading my story and for your support ❤️
My fundraising efforts will also contribute towards my ‘challengers’ Ranger badge which is one of my last interest badges I need as part of rangers (Girlguiding) which only makes this fundraising challenge even more special as it means I can make Grandma part of my Girlguiding journey.
Grace
