On 1st July 2023 I will be running the Ham & Lyme 50k ultra marathon between Ham Hill and Lyme Regis, raising money for Taunton Foodbank!

With the cost of living crisis showing no sign of letting up, more and more people are finding that their incomes are not covering the cost of essentials like heating and food. Between April 2022 and March 2023, nationally the number of people that used a food bank for the first time was 760,000. Close to 3 million emergency food parcels were distributed by food banks in the Trussell Trust network in the past 12 months, up 37% on the previous year! More than one million of these parcels were distributed for children. Taunton Foodbank provide an essential service working towards stopping hunger in our local area.

Running 50k across the hills around the Somerset, Devon and Dorset borders (3,316ft/1,011m total elevation gain!) sounds like a slightly mad challenge, but training has gone well and I'm feeling up for it. Just finishing will be a major accomplishment for me, but I'm aiming to finish in around 6-6.5 hours. I'm hoping that raising money for a good cause will help push me on in those difficult moments.
