Story
On 24 May 2026, a group of friends and colleagues known as the G’raft’ers will be taking to the water to tackle the legendary Great Strait Raft Run across the Menai Strait.
While there’s no denying we’re in it for the challenge (and maybe a bit of fun), we’re really doing this to raise vital funds for an outstanding local charity: Môn Search and Rescue (MON SAR).
About the Event
Held annually on the majestic waters of the Menai Strait, the Great Strait Raft Run is one of the most unique and demanding events in the area, set against the breathtaking backdrop of Snowdonia and the natural beauty of Anglesey.
Starting from the old slate port of Felinheli, our raft will make its way past historic Plas Newydd towards Porthaethwy (Menai Bridge). Along the route, the G’raft’ers will pass beneath two iconic feats of engineering — the Britannia Bridge and Thomas Telford’s Menai Suspension Bridge — before navigating the infamous and occasionally unforgiving Swellies.
It’s a true test of teamwork, resilience, and staying afloat… literally.
Why We’re Supporting Môn Search and Rescue
Môn Search and Rescue (Tîm Chwilio ac Achub Ynys Môn) is the first lowland search and rescue team in Wales, operating in lowland and urban environments (up to 600 metres). The team is an operational member of Lowland Rescue, the UK‑wide association of lowland search and rescue teams.
Run entirely by dedicated volunteers, MON SAR provides a crucial service to the local community, helping to locate vulnerable missing people — often in difficult conditions and at all hours of the day and night. Their work saves lives, but it depends heavily on fundraising to cover training, equipment, and operational costs.
How You Can Support the G’raft’ers
Every donation, no matter the size, helps ensure MON SAR can continue their life‑saving work across Anglesey and beyond.
If you’re able to sponsor the G’raft’ers, we’d be hugely grateful. Thank you for supporting us, backing this brilliant cause, and helping make a real difference.
